I'll Stand By You

Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
Don't be ashamed to cry
Let me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

So if you're mad, get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
Well I'm a lot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
cause even if you're wrong

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you

And when...
When the night falls on you, baby
You're feeling all alone
You wont be on your own

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Wont let nobody hurt you

I'll stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Wont let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Wont let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

This song by the Pretenders came on the other day while Pete and I were driving somewhere together. And it hit me that the more time goes on the more I am his protector, the more he needs me. And even though I bitch about it sometimes and fear it all the time I know I am up for the challenge because through it all I still love him madly.

Absolutely! The older I get and the more I see friends go through struggles and divorces (or not, even when life is really hard on them), the more I realize this is what commitment is. I know it's got to feel scary at times, and overwhelming, but there is always something to deal with in loving anyone - and there are far worse things I could think of living through. You are absolutely up to the challenge, and this kind of commitment is what makes (some) marriages beautiful. :-)

Tricia,

You are BOTH very lucky to have each other...your words at the end of this post solidify that fact in my mind.
