I know Meghan will be glad of this news because she's been after me to just do this for several years. I am standing in my house - contemplating spring cleaning with a feeling of total despair coming over me. I cannot possibly get it all done before hubby's best friend and his wife arrive on May 1st. You would think 2 weeks would be enough time to clean a house but you would be wrong.
It's an ongoing battle and I've let clutter accumulate so over the winter that I have 2 full days just to clean out the spare room so they have someplace to sleep. I plan to cram most of that decluttering into one afternoon - TODAY. It has to be done, HAS TO!
Then I will also run the vacuum because it's way over due through the entire house. But my house needs major cleaning - kitchen, bathrooms, floors, baseboards, woodwork, furniture. Easily a weeks worth of chores if I wasn't going to work.
I. CANNOT. DO. THIS!
So I'm breaking down - calling the cleaning lady who's name I have had for over a year. Please internet friends - PRAY that she is accepting new clients and can get started this week. PRAY HARD!
I. GIVE. UP!

Hey.
We had plans to be away Saturday into Sunday and the huz informed me our friends, who we knew were coming this week (sometime)were coming TODAY. So I did what I could, he is doing the rest, and I remind myself that our dear friends are not coming to white-glove my baseboards. They have clean sheets and towels and good food and all the rest they accept in love.
And if I had the money for a professional cleaning of my dust-and cat-furball of a house, I'd call her in a New York minute. NO shame in that!
PS...I'm going to be in Roseboom sometime this week. I don't suppose you have any sort of super-flexible (and kinda long) lunch hour arrangement at work?
Well let me know what day you will be in Roseboom and I could have a migraine that day? LOL My office is a good hour and a half from Roseboom so I'd need a 3 hour lunch just for the drive but from home it's about 1/2 an hour and just up the road from my sister in Seward.
And I justified my hiring the cleaning lady this way - I used to eat lunch out every day, this cost $7-10 a day. Now I pack my lunch and go to the gym almost every day. This is saving me about $50 a week. The gym costs $20 a month. This leaves me $180 a month ahead which can be used to pay the maid. Although I am planning to have her come weekly and so it may cost a bit more than that but I'm okay with that.
It's about damn time!! :)
Doesn't it feel good to give up and give in? I bet you feel the weight of the world off your shoulders.
I'll feel that way once I have a confirmation that she is going to take the job. I called and left a message and now I'm waiting for the callback.
My appointment is on Friday 5/2 at 2pm. So maybe you could have 'an appointment' in the morning & we could meet for an early lunch! Just thought I'd mention it since I've never had an appointment so close to you. (I was in Sherburne once, that was about it.)
Oh my - I have vacation days 5/1-2 because my husband's friends are arriving on 5/1. I would jump at the chance to meet you but my husband has to work on Friday and I will be entertaining his friends. So I'm not sure that is going to work out. If your appointment was on 5/1 it would be perfect! LOL I'll keep the idea in the back of my head in case I can figure out a way to make it work. (i.e. dump friends with hubby for lunch and come meet you?)
That's okay, I just got another survey...in WOODSTOCK, so now I have to do that one first, then drive to Roseboom. So it looks like I won't have as much free time as I expected. And a 12 hour day to boot. Yikes. Next time I get one up that way I'll let you know...there will be others.
Yikes! Woodstock! :) Hope it's a nice day for you - the scenery is beautiful! Too bad it wouldn't work out - Roseboom is close to Cooperstown and there are some sweet little cafés there!
Good Lord, FINALLY! LOL As you well know, I have never understood why you kept punishing yourself by forcing yourself to deal with the drudgery of housecleaning - I've gathered enough over the years to know we're somewhere in the same ballpark when it comes to how much (little) time and energy we have to devote to cleaning. :-) I still appreciate my maid SO VERY much, she came this past Sunday (usually Saturday but she had to go into the city to "see the Pope" this week..LOL). Anyway, so when I got home from my non-stop weekend, it was to pristine cleanliness, fresh sheets, and utter serenity and order all around. All I had left to do was take a bubble bath and go to bed. That is worth a LOT, and absolutely you can carve it out of your budget! I'll be hoping she can start soon, seems like usually they can in my experience - and the good thing about this woman is that you already know and trust her so you could leave her a key and she can come while you're at work maybe!
I left my message around noon today and haven't heard back yet BUT my sister has a co-worker who's sister cleans and she has an opening on Saturdays. So if the first lady doesn't call me back by Wed I'll call this girl. Then I can be home while she does it at least the first few times. :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog!! Great to have you aboard.
As for the clutter. If tackling it all at once is overwhelming, try a little bit at a time. Set a goal to remove two garbage bags of stuff a day. Whatever you can do. Feel proud of what you do accomplish, not what you don't.
Good luck and don't give up!
YOU. CAN. DO. THIS.
Maybe I should have said I.DON'T.WANT.TO.DO.THIS.ANYMORE! :)
I will have to declutter and I made great progress on Sunday - 4 bags of clothes to give away. 3 bins of purses, shoes, and off season clothes to go in the basement. The bed is 95% cleaned off. What's left to do is declutter my desk and the top of one dresser. Dust, vacuum, change the bedding to clean fresh bedding.
So as long as I can get someone to come clean the rest of the house I can get that room ready! LOL
