So I joined a gym

After getting all kinds of pissed off because the local Curves is closed at lunch time I talked to other co-workers and discovered a brand new Planet Fitness opened right around the corner from the Curves. Let me tell you this place is AWESOME! At least 20 treadmills, 20 eliptical trainers, stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, cross country ski machines. Weight machines all over the place - free weights for the muscle heads - and a 30 minute weight training circuit where you do each machine for a set time and move when the light flashes.

HUGE - clean locker rooms with showers! Massage chairs that you can use for no additional cost with your membership AND at least 7 tanning beds that are also included in your membership.

How much do you think a club like this might cost? Well Curves was $34.95 per month and doesn't feature half of this stuff, no locker room with showers for sure, no cardio machines, no hot guy on the elliptical in front of me flexing his hot ass... So this fantastic club costs ....

$19.95 a month! That's it! Unlimited use of the tanning alone costs more than that anywhere else! I probably won't use the tanning because melanoma isn't my idea of fun, neither is turning into an old wrinkled piece of leather. BUT what a deal right?

I worked out for 30 minutes today - walked on the treadmill and kept my heart rate in the fat burning range. Tomorrow I'm going to try the machines that kinda look like one of those gazelle glider things only much more seriously industrial. I think they might be ski or snowshoe like movements? Not sure but looked easier than the elliptical but a step up from just walking on a treadmill.

My goal? Well to be smoking hot of course! ;-) And maybe healthier would be good too?

So I'm glad Curves was closed - or I might have signed up for their lousy little club and missed out on this great place!

DUDE! I wish I could find a gym membership for that cheap! Seriously!

OMG. That is incredible. If only I could find that kind of gym between the office and the house. Of course, the only things between the office and the house are: two grocery stores, a truck stop, and several dairy farms. :)

I guess my garden will have to be my gym. ;-)

The manager of Curves finally called me (I left my message on Monday or Tuesday?) today to see if anyone else had called me back. I was perhaps a little SMUG when I told her that no, no one had and that I had driven by and realized they were closed at lunch which seemed silly to me so I had joined Planet Fitness instead.

She just said "Oh, okay" and I hung up laughing! :)

Good for you! That is truly a terrific price! My gym is 74.70 (to be precise) a month! It sounds like they have everything too! I've never seen a Planet Fitness around here. If the machine you're describing as an "industrial gazelle glider" is the one I'm thinking of, that's my favorite machine! I forget what they're actually called, but essentialy mimic a climbing hike (or sure, snowshoe type effort). We have two types, one where you're moving your arms with the bars too that is my favorite, the one where your arms isn't moving is a lot easier. I think ellipticals are the easiest machines overall though. It doesn't really make any difference how you get your heart rate up though, especially just starting out, just that you're moving! It's terrific to have the variety to do all of it as your mood changes. Sounds great!

Okay, I hit return too fast before correcting spelling and grammar errors in my previous post...LOL I also wanted to say that I've never really liked the idea of Curves for myself. I've heard good things about them from some people, but basically their commercials always seem so "touchy feely" - hard to explain, but they come across like this place that only beginners who feel intimidated by a real gym would go, for people who need a lot of encouragement. And that's great and all, but that phase doesn't last long for most people and personally I don't want anyone checking on me or encouraging me, just to be left alone to do my thing - and yep, it's downright silly to be closed at lunch!

I've been a member of Curves before and I didn't mind it. No one ever bothered me or came around to cheer me on - other than to get me started and show me the ropes my first visit. The equipment is easy and limited though. I wasn't really keen on them but I thought they were the only affordable option near the office. Thank goodness I didn't join there - this is so much better!

And over $70 a month? I'd want it to do the exercises for me! LOL Looks like the only Planet Fitness near you Meghan are still about 12-15 miles away which on the Island is much further than up here! :)

Yeah, and unfortunately I know from past experience that a gym HAS to be close and/or convenient for me to go regularly! Any price is too high if you're not using it! I could've gotten a discount at another gym that's actually close to work, but the wrong direction, so I know it wouldn't work because I wouldn't go on weekends. There's also another gym a block away that isn't as nice but half the price, but I opted for the big, fun gym and I do like mine a lot! I'd rather pay $19.95, but unfortunately not an option! Glad you got a good deal though! :-)
