Getting excited...

I moved into this house 7 years ago this month.  For 7 long years I have HATED the giant overgrown bushes that lined the front of my house.  I have tried to trim them back to no avail they take over no matter what, they hang over the sidewalk and in the winter the weight of snow on them causes them to completely cover the sidewalk.  Well they are GONE!  Cut down, hauled away and GONE!  I am so excited.  Also gone are all the weeds, the old mulch the ripped and torn old canvas ground cover that was supposed to stop the weeds.

I have a fresh canvas to plant new bushes, trees, flowers.  I have about 40-50 feet in length by 6 feet in depth to plant fresh new beautiful things.  I am hoping to hit up some nurseries for 50% off and 75% off flowering bushes that I can plant now and enjoy in the spring.

I owe it all to the guy who is working for me - he is a hard worker and doing a great job so far.

I cannot wait to see what it is going to look like when I get it done.  :)

Fall has arrived...

And I am NOT happy about it.  It's cold out there and I want more summer.  :(  August was a weird month, only hot the first weekend, wet and rainy, temps in the 70's, not at all like August.  I never got into my swimming pool ONCE in August and I'm so bummed.  Now it is downright freezing - frost warning overnight and temps around 40 when I woke up.  I have to close my pool and that depresses me to no end.  :(

The upside to fall is I probably only have to mow a few more times as the cold nights stop the grass from growing and once we have a real frost it will be done for good. 

Time to get into fall mode I guess, sweaters, jeans, boots, apple picking, leaves changing, bonfires, I guess I can do this. 

I <3 Fall!

This is my front yard - and my driveway - and the beautiful colors are just one reason fall is my favorite season! I love the crisp air, the smells, the sights, the grass no longer growing and requiring mowing. Winter is still a ways off.

Mostly though I just love the weather - warm days, crisp nights, heaven.

I updated my header graphic with the view from my deck, it's amazing how often I take that view for granted - not today.

First things first...

Duh (re: prior post) Father's Day isn't until NEXT weekend - who was afraid to tell me I was wrong? LOL

And now the real subject of this post - NATURE INVADING MY YARD! :)

Look at this sweet little bambi I found under my willow trees this morning - isn't he adorable?

His mother no where in sight and him being extremely weak and not at all scared made me nervous. I wondered if he had wandered off and got lost or had some other way gotten separated from his mama. I called the sheriff wondering if there was a wildlife/game officer for this area they had me call a hotline at the Department of Environmental Conservation. They told me that it was common - that the mother had left him to go eat and rest herself but that she would be back. They said she could leave him there for 3-5 days and he'd be fine. WOW a newborn going 3-5 days with no food and he'd be fine? I was skeptical.

They also said not to touch him - but my husband, ever the rebel, had to do exactly what I told him not to. This really made me nervous. But we went out for a few hours and when we came back Bambi was gone. Off in the adjacent lot which is an overgrown field we could see a lone doe standing and staring at us. I assume that was her probably thinking she had snatched her baby from the jaws of death. I'm happy and a little disappointed too - was planning how to get some old goat bottles from my parents and calling a friend who has goats to get some milk and raising myself a pretty white tailed fawn! :)

In other news our brief trip out today was to go to a pool place and look at the costs for above ground pools. I might be able to swing it - a pool that is! WooHoo! Would so love to have a swimming pool.
